As we wind down from the hurried pace and expectations of the holiday season, and the New Year is fast approaching, it seems fitting to reflect back on all that we have and all that we are still trying to realize.
In the latest interview of the Inspired Woman Project with Heather Chauvin, we rediscover that life holds no guarantees; that it is up to each of us to overcome our fears, light up our own spark and sometimes, just breathe….
In December of 2013, Heather was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that upon reflection woke her up to a new way of being in her life. In this interview, she discusses how she was able to move through her fear by fully allowing it, no matter how difficult it got. By remembering to breathe deeply and center herself in the moment, she could eventually detach from it and let it go. “When people get stuck in fear they tend to panic or freeze” says Heather. It is uncomfortable and most of us want to push it down or distract ourselves away from it. Heather sees it differently now, knowing that you don’t have to become attached to the fear and you don’t have to resist, you simply need to breathe and allow.
The second fundamental lesson that Heather is passionate to share is that taking care of ourselves is not a selfish act, but rather the most important way we can show up in our lives. When we are filled it is reflected unto everyone around us, especially the ones we are most connected to. Heather knows from experience that self-care is not an easy habit to form, but that once the seeds are planted, our families, our friends and we, ourselves, will be better for it. “Every day I feel not good enough” says Heather, but then she catches herself and asks “is that my truth or just a story?” She doesn’t run from her pain or fear anymore, and she knows firsthand that in this month of gifts, her life is the greatest one.
