What does parenting and business have to do with one another? Well, I like the saying "how you do one thing, is how you do everything". If I am stressed with my work, that stress impacts my family. If I am hurrying and rushed, with too much to do, that also impacts my family. And it works the other way too - it things are going on in my family that could easily keep me preoccupied in my work. Not to mention the logistical pieces - doctor appointments, school functions, work trips that cross over between the two. I have seen over and over how my mood, my stress levels, my state of mind, and how I am feeling inside, shows up in my family. When I am in a connected, grounded place within myself, it is so much easier for me to have connected, grounded relationships and interactions with my children and my husband.
My kids are sensitive, so they pick up on what I might be experiencing. Plus, I'm not that great at compartmentalizing. I am whole and complete and imperfect. I have learned some amazing tools, techniques, and perspectives that have helped me to be more connected in my parenting. And I am so grateful to be able to share these tools and new perspectives around communication with other women creating amazing change in the world. And going back to "how you do one thing is how you do everything", I find that I use those exact same things in all areas of my life - especially in my work.
What one thing are you doing that is showing up everywhere? Are you experiencing the connection and presence with your kids that you want to be, how is that impacting your work? How is your work impacting your family? I would love to hear from you in the comments section below!
